1. 5th Avenue Apartment by Thomas Phifer

5th Avenue Apartment, in New York City, owned by USA Jil Sander CEO, Constance Darrow and her husband Angelo Lombardi looks powerful with almost nothing in it.

Nothing really disappears in a nearly empty apartment. Everything is hidden, so you really don’t see it.

Thomas Phifer and Partners received an AIA New York 2011 Design Award for the Fifth Avenue Apartment. With a fascination for cutting back, Constance Darrow and Angelo Lombardi furnished their New York pied-à-terre with modern pieces by Jean Prouvé and Jean Royère. The apartment is notably sofa-free with three Jean Royère arm chairs. The kitchen island’s cooktop is invisible under a stainless-steel plate. Eventually, Constance Darrow and Angelo Lombardi will display additional artwork.

    What more do you need?

The Swiss-French architect designer Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, known as Le Corbusier proclaimed “Chairs are architecture; sofas are bourgeois.” Are you another anti-sofa-ite?
